At Murchison Falls the full force of the River Nile is compressed through a cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment just seven metres wide, erupting into a thunderous cascade that sends a permanent rainbow of mist across the gorge. This 4-day safari places that spectacle at its heart but offers far more than a single waterfall. A morning launch cruise upstream from Paraa brings you nose-to-snout with Nile crocodiles basking on sandbanks, past pods of over forty hippos, and alongside elephants drinking at the water's edge. Game drives through the Buligi peninsula reveal Rothschild's giraffe — found in the wild almost nowhere else — as well as lion, hartebeest, and oribi scattered across golden savanna. Keen birders regularly tick off Shoebill stork in the papyrus delta where the Nile enters Lake Albert. Each evening you return to a safari lodge set above the river, where the distant roar of the falls accompanies dinner under the stars.
