About This Tour
Rwanda packs extraordinary depth into small distances, and this 4-day safari captures that intensity. You start in Kigali — Africa's cleanest capital — with a visit to the Genocide Memorial that provides essential context for the nation's remarkable recovery. A scenic two-hour drive north through terraced hillsides and eucalyptus groves delivers you to Musanze, the gateway town nestled beneath five volcanic peaks. The next morning, after a briefing at Volcanoes National Park headquarters, you trek into bamboo forest and Hagenia woodland on the volcano slopes, guided by trackers who know every family by name. When you find your gorilla group — perhaps a 30-strong clan led by a 220-kilogram silverback — the hour you spend with them unfolds in near silence, broken only by soft grunts and the crack of bamboo stems. An afternoon visit to the Ellen DeGeneres Gorilla Fund Museum deepens your understanding of conservation efforts before a farewell dinner overlooking the volcanoes.
